| March 1 Old Testament Leviticus 21-22 21:1Yahweh said to Moses, Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, There shall none defile himself for the dead among his people; 21:2except for his relatives, that is near to him, for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother, 21:3and for his sister a virgin, that is near to him, that has had no husband; for her may he defile himself. 21:4He shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself. 21:5They shall not make baldness on their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh. 21:6They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God; for the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy. 21:7They shall not take a woman that is a prostitute, or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband: for he is holy to his God. 21:8You shall sanctify him therefore; for he offers the bread of your God: he shall be holy to you: for I Yahweh, who sanctify you, am holy. 21:9The daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father: she shall be burnt with fire. 21:10He who is the high priest among his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil is poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head go loose, nor tear his clothes; 21:11neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother; 21:12neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is on him: I am Yahweh. 21:13He shall take a wife in her virginity. 21:14A widow, or one divorced, or a profane woman, a prostitute, these shall he not take: but a virgin of his own people shall he take as a wife. 21:15He shall not profane his seed among his people: for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him. 21:16Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 21:17Speak to Aaron, saying, Whoever he be of your seed throughout their generations that has a blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God. 21:18For whatever man he be that has a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that has a flat nose, or any deformity, 21:19or a man that is broken-footed, or broken-handed, 21:20or crook-backed, or a dwarf, or that has a blemish in his eye, or is scurvy, or scabbed, or has his stones broken; 21:21no man of the seed of Aaron the priest, that has a blemish, shall come near to offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire: he has a blemish; he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God. 21:22He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy: 21:23only he shall not go in to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he has a blemish; that he not profane my sanctuaries: for I am Yahweh who sanctifies them. 21:24So Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel. 22:1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 22:2Speak to Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, which they make holy to me, and that they not profane my holy name: I am Yahweh. 22:3Tell them, Whoever he be of all your seed throughout your generations, that approaches to the holy things, which the children of Israel make holy to Yahweh, having his uncleanness on him, that soul shall be cut off from before me: I am Yahweh. 22:4Whatever man of the seed of Aaron is a leper, or has an issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he is clean. Whoever touches anything that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goes from him; 22:5or whoever touches any creeping thing, by which he may be made unclean, or a man of whom he may take uncleanness, whatever uncleanness he has; 22:6the soul that touches any such shall be unclean until the even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he bathe his flesh in water. 22:7When the sun is down, he shall be clean; and afterward he shall eat of the holy things, because it is his bread. 22:8That which dies of itself, or is torn by animals, he shall not eat, to defile himself therewith: I am Yahweh. 22:9They shall therefore keep my charge, lest they bear sin for it, and die therein, if they profane it: I am Yahweh who sanctifies them. 22:10There shall no stranger eat of the holy thing: a sojourner of the priest's, or a hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing. 22:11But if a priest buy any soul, the purchase of his money, he shall eat of it; and such as are born in his house, they shall eat of his bread. 22:12If a priest's daughter be married to a stranger, she shall not eat of the heave-offering of the holy things. 22:13But if a priest's daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and be returned to her father's house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father's bread: but there shall no stranger eat of it. 22:14If a man eat of the holy thing unwittingly, then he shall put the fifth part of it to it, and shall give to the priest the holy thing. 22:15They shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer to Yahweh, 22:16and so cause them to bear the iniquity that brings guilt, when they eat their holy things: for I am Yahweh who sanctifies them. 22:17Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 22:18Speak to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel, and tell them, Whoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the sojourners in Israel, that offers his offering, whether it be any of their vows, or any of their freewill-offerings, which they offer to Yahweh for a burnt offering; 22:19that you may be accepted, you shall offer a male without blemish, of the bulls, of the sheep, or of the goats. 22:20But whatever has a blemish, that shall you not offer: for it shall not be acceptable for you. 22:21Whoever offers a sacrifice of peace-offerings to Yahweh to accomplish a vow, or for a freewill-offering, of the herd or of the flock, it shall be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no blemish therein. 22:22Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, you shall not offer these to Yahweh, nor make an offering by fire of them on the altar to Yahweh. 22:23Either a bull or a lamb that has any deformity or lacking in his parts, that may you offer for a freewill-offering; but for a vow it shall not be accepted. 22:24That which has its stones bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut, you shall not offer to Yahweh; neither shall you do thus in your land. 22:25Neither from the hand of a foreigner shall you offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them, there is a blemish in them: they shall not be accepted for you. 22:26Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 22:27When a bull, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the hen; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted for the offering of an offering made by fire to Yahweh. 22:28Whether it be cow or ewe, you shall not kill it and its young both in one day. 22:29When you sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Yahweh, you shall sacrifice it that you may be accepted. 22:30On the same day it shall be eaten; you shall leave none of it until the morning: I am Yahweh. 22:31Therefore shall you keep my commandments, and do them: I am Yahweh. 22:32You shall not profane my holy name; but I will be made holy among the children of Israel: I am Yahweh who makes you holy, 22:33who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am Yahweh. New Testament Luke 20 20:1It happened on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, that the chief priests and scribes came to him with the elders. 20:2They asked him, "Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?" 20:3He answered them, "I also will ask you one question. Tell me: 20:4the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?" 20:5They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why didn't you believe him?' 20:6But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet." 20:7They answered that they didn't know where it was from. 20:8Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things." 20:9He began to tell the people this parable. "A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time. 20:10At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty. 20:11He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. 20:12He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out. 20:13The lord of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.' 20:14"But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.' 20:15They threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them? 20:16He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others." When they heard it, they said, "May it never be!" 20:17But he looked at them, and said, "Then what is this that is written, 'The stone which the builders rejected, 20:18"Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, 20:19The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him that very hour, but they feared the people -- for they knew He had spoken this parable against them. 20:20They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor. 20:21They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren't partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. 20:22Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" 20:23But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, "Why do you test me? 20:24Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?" They answered, "Caesar's." 20:25He said to them, "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." 20:26They weren't able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer, and were silent. 20:27Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection. 20:28They asked him, "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother. 20:29There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless. 20:30The second took her as wife, and he died childless. 20:31The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died. 20:32Afterward the woman also died. 20:33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife." 20:34Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry, and are given in marriage. 20:35But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage. 20:36For they can't die any more, for they are like the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. 20:37But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' 20:38Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him." 20:39Some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you speak well." 20:40They didn't dare to ask him any more questions. 20:41He said to them, "Why do they say that the Christ is David's son? 20:42David himself says in the book of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, 20:44"David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?" 20:45In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples, 20:46"Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts; 20:47who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these will receive greater condemnation." |
