Old Testament

Leviticus 19-20

19:1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 19:2Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and tell them, You shall be holy; for I Yahweh your God am holy. 19:3You shall fear every man his mother, and his father; and you shall keep my Sabbaths: I am Yahweh your God. 19:4Don't turn to idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am Yahweh your God. 19:5When you offer a sacrifice of peace-offerings to Yahweh, you shall offer it that you may be accepted. 19:6It shall be eaten the same day you offer it, and on the next day: and if anything remain until the third day, it shall be burnt with fire. 19:7If it be eaten at all on the third day, it is an abomination; it shall not be accepted: 19:8but everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned the holy thing of Yahweh: and that soul shall be cut off from his people. 19:9When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, neither shall you gather the gleaning of your harvest. 19:10You shall not glean your vineyard, neither shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am Yahweh your God. 19:11You shall not steal; neither shall you deal falsely, nor lie one to another. 19:12You shall not swear by my name falsely, and profane the name of your God: I am Yahweh. 19:13You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him: the wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning. 19:14You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind; but you shall fear your God: I am Yahweh. 19:15You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: you shall not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty; but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. 19:16You shall not go up and down as a talebearer among your people: neither shall you stand against the blood of your neighbor: I am Yahweh. 19:17You shall not hate your brother in your heart: you shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. 19:18You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people; but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am Yahweh. 19:19You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with a diverse kind: you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed: neither shall there come on you a garment of two kinds of stuff mixed together. 19:20Whoever lies carnally with a woman, who is a bondmaid, pledged to be married to a husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; they shall be punished; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free. 19:21He shall bring his trespass-offering to Yahweh, to the door of the tent of meeting, even a ram for a trespass-offering. 19:22The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass-offering before Yahweh for his sin which he has sinned: and the sin which he has sinned shall be forgiven him. 19:23When you shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then you shall count the fruit of it as their uncircumcision: three years shall they be as uncircumcised to you; it shall not be eaten. 19:24But in the fourth year all the fruit of it shall be holy, for giving praise to Yahweh. 19:25In the fifth year shall you eat of the fruit of it, that it may yield to you the increase of it: I am Yahweh your God. 19:26You shall not eat anything with the blood: neither shall you use enchantments, nor practice sorcery. 19:27You shall not cut the hair on the sides of your heads, neither shall you clip off the edge of your beard. 19:28You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks on you: I am Yahweh. 19:29Don't profane your daughter, to make her a prostitute; lest the land fall to prostitution, and the land become full of wickedness. 19:30You shall keep my Sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary; I am Yahweh. 19:31Don't turn to those who have familiar spirits, nor to the wizards; don't seek them out, to be defiled by them: I am Yahweh your God. 19:32You shall rise up before the gray head, and honor the face of the old man, and you shall fear your God: I am Yahweh. 19:33If a stranger sojourn with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 19:34The stranger who sojourns with you shall be to you as the home-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt: I am Yahweh your God. 19:35You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measures of length, of weight, or of quantity. 19:36Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall you have: I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. 19:37You shall observe all my statutes, and all my ordinances, and do them: I am Yahweh.

20:1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 20:2Moreover, you shall tell the children of Israel, Whoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel, who gives of his seed to Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. 20:3I also will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he has given of his seed to Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. 20:4If the people at the land do at all hide their eyes from that man, when he gives of his seed to Molech, and don't put him to death; 20:5then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all who play the prostitute after him, to play the prostitute with Molech, from among their people. 20:6The soul that turns to those who have familiar spirits, and to the wizards, to play the prostitute after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. 20:7Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am Yahweh your God. 20:8You shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am Yahweh who sanctifies you. 20:9For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death: he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be on him. 20:10The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, even he who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. 20:11The man who lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be on them. 20:12If a man lie with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have created confusion; their blood shall be on them. 20:13If a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be on them. 20:14If a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you. 20:15If a man lie with a animal, he shall surely be put to death: and you shall kill the animal. 20:16If a woman approach to any animal, and lie down thereto, you shall kill the woman, and the animal: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be on them. 20:17If a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a shameful thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of the children of their people: he has uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity. 20:18If a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he has made naked her fountain, and she has uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people. 20:19You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister, nor of your father's sister; for he has made naked his close relative: they shall bear their iniquity. 20:20If a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he has uncovered his uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless. 20:21If a man shall take his brother's wife, it is impurity: he has uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless. 20:22You shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my ordinances, and do them; that the land, where I bring you to dwell therein, not vomit you out. 20:23You shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. 20:24But I have said to you, You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey: I am Yahweh your God, who has separated you from the peoples. 20:25You shall therefore make a distinction between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean fowl and the clean: and you shall not make your souls abominable by animal, or by bird, or by anything with which the ground teems, which I have separated from you as unclean. 20:26You shall be holy to me: for I, Yahweh, am holy, and have set you apart from the peoples, that you should be mine. 20:27A man also or a woman that has a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones; their blood shall be on them.

New Testament

Luke 19

19:1He entered and was passing through Jericho. 19:2There was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 19:3He was trying to see who Jesus was, and couldn't because of the crowd, because he was short. 19:4He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. 19:5When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house." 19:6He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully. 19:7When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, "He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner."

19:8Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much."

19:9Jesus said to him, "Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham. 19:10For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost."

19:11As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the Kingdom of God would be revealed immediately. 19:12He said therefore, "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 19:13He called ten servants of his, and gave them ten minas, and told them, 'Conduct business until I come.' 19:14But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, 'We don't want this man to reign over us.'

19:15"It happened when he had come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business. 19:16The first came before him, saying, 'Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.'

19:17"He said to him, 'Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.'

19:18"The second came, saying, 'Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.'

19:19"So he said to him, 'And you are to be over five cities.' 19:20Another came, saying, 'Lord, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief, 19:21for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn't lay down, and reap that which you didn't sow.'

19:22"He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn't lay down, and reaping that which I didn't sow. 19:23Then why didn't you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?' 19:24He said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina away from him, and give it to him who has the ten minas.'

19:25"They said to him, 'Lord, he has ten minas!' 19:26'For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn't have, even that which he has will be taken away from him. 19:27But bring those enemies of mine who didn't want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.'" 19:28Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

19:29It happened, when he drew near to Bethsphage and Bethany, at the mountain that is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples, 19:30saying, "Go your way into the village on the other side, in which, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat. Untie it, and bring it. 19:31If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' say to him: 'The Lord needs it.'"

19:32Those who were sent went away, and found things just as he had told them. 19:33As they were untying the colt, the owners of it said to them, 'Why are you untying the colt?' 19:34They said, 'The Lord needs it.' 19:35They brought it to Jesus. They threw their cloaks on the colt, and set Jesus on them. 19:36As he went, they spread their cloaks in the way. 19:37As he was now getting near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen, 19:38saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!"

19:39Some of the Pharisees from the multitude said to him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!"

19:40He answered them, "I tell you that if these were silent, the stones would cry out."

19:41When he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, 19:42saying, "If you, even you, had known today the things which belong to your peace! But now, they are hidden from your eyes. 19:43For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side, 19:44and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you didn't know the time of your visitation."

19:45He entered into the temple, and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it, 19:46saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of robbers'!"

19:47He was teaching daily in the temple, but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people sought to destroy him. 19:48They couldn't find what they might do, for all the people hung on to every word that he said.
