| January 3 Old Testament Genesis 5-6 5:1This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, he made him in God's likeness. 5:2He created them male and female, and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. 5:3Adam lived one hundred thirty years, and became the father of a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. 5:4The days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he became the father of sons and daughters. 5:5All the days that Adam lived were nine hundred thirty years, then he died. 5:6Seth lived one hundred five years, and became the father of Enosh. 5:7Seth lived after he became the father of Enosh eight hundred seven years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:8All the days of Seth were nine hundred twelve years, then he died. 5:9Enosh lived ninety years, and became the father of Kenan. 5:10Enosh lived after he became the father of Kenan, eight hundred fifteen years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:11All the days of Enosh were nine hundred five years, then he died. 5:12Kenan lived seventy years, and became the father of Mahalalel. 5:13Kenan lived after he became the father of Mahalalel eight hundred forty years, and became the father of sons and daughters 5:14and all the days of Kenan were nine hundred ten years, then he died. 5:15Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Jared. 5:16Mahalalel lived after he became the father of Jared eight hundred thirty years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:17All the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred ninety-five years, then he died. 5:18Jared lived one hundred sixty-two years, and became the father of Enoch. 5:19Jared lived after he became the father of Enoch eight hundred years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:20All the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty-two years, then he died. 5:21Enoch lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Methuselah. 5:22Enoch walked with God after he became the father of Methuselah three hundred years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:23all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty-five years. 5:24Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him. 5:25Methuselah lived one hundred eighty-seven years, and became the father of Lamech. 5:26Methuselah lived after he became the father of Lamech seven hundred eighty-two years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:27All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty-nine years, then he died. 5:28Lamech lived one hundred eighty-two years, and became the father of a son, 5:29and he named him Noah, saying, "This same will comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, because of the ground which Yahweh has cursed." 5:30Lamech lived after he became the father of Noah five hundred ninety-five years, and became the father of sons and daughters. 5:31All the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy-seven years, then he died. 5:32Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 6:1It happened, when men began to multiply on the surface of the ground, and daughters were born to them, 6:2that God's sons saw that men's daughters were beautiful, and they took for themselves wives of all that they chose. 6:3Yahweh said, "My Spirit will not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; yet will his days be one hundred twenty years." 6:4The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when God's sons came to men's daughters. They bore children to them: the same were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. 6:5Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6:6Yahweh was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart. 6:7Yahweh said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground; man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them." 6:8But Noah found favor in Yahweh's eyes. 6:9This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God. 6:10Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 6:11The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 6:12God saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 6:13God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 6:14Make an ark of gopher wood. You shall make rooms in the ark, and shall seal it inside and outside with pitch. 6:15This is how you shall make it. The length of the ark will be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 6:16You shall make a roof in the ark, and to a cubit shall you finish it upward. You shall set the door of the ark in the side of it. You shall make it with lower, second, and third levels. 6:17I, even, I do bring the flood of waters on this earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is in the earth will die. 6:18But I will establish my covenant with you. You shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you. 6:19Of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. 6:20Of the birds after their kind, of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort shall come to you, to keep them alive. 6:21Take with you of all food that is eaten, and gather it to you; and it will be for food for you, and for them. 6:22Thus Noah did. According to all that God commanded him, so he did. New Testament Matthew 5 5:1Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him. 5:2He opened his mouth and taught them, saying, 5:3"Blessed
are the poor in spirit, 5:4Blessed are those who mourn, 5:5Blessed are the gentle, 5:6Blessed are those who hunger and
thirst after righteousness, 5:7Blessed are the merciful, 5:8Blessed are the pure in heart, 5:9Blessed are the peacemakers, 5:10Blessed are those who have been
persecuted for righteousness' sake, 5:11"Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 5:12Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you. 5:13"You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men. 5:14You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can't be hidden. 5:15Neither do you light a lamp, and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. 5:16Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. 5:17"Don't think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn't come to destroy, but to fulfill. 5:18For most assuredly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished. 5:19Whoever, therefore, shall break one of these least commandments, and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. 5:20For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. 5:21"You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, 'You shall not murder;' and 'Whoever shall murder shall be in danger of the judgment.' 5:22But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna. 5:23"If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, 5:24leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 5:25Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. 5:26Most assuredly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there, until you have paid the last penny. 5:27"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;' 5:28but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. 5:29If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. 5:30If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not your whole body be thrown into Gehenna. 5:31"It was also said, 'Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,' 5:32but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery. 5:33"Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, 'You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,' 5:34but I tell you, don't swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God; 5:35nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 5:36Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can't make one hair white or black. 5:37But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'no.' Whatever is more than these is of the evil one. 5:38"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' 5:39But I tell you, don't resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. 5:40If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. 5:41Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 5:42Give to him who asks you, and don't turn away him who desires to borrow from you. 5:43"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.' 5:44But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, 5:45that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust. 5:46For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don't even the tax collectors do the same? 5:47If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don't even the tax collectors do the same? 5:48Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. |
